CRISMOS
SEMINAR: Critical Studies on Mobility
” Critical Studies on Mobility Seminar” is a collaboration on
research and research seminars between two universities, Uppsala and
Stockholm, and one research institute, The Nordic Africa Institute.
The researchers come from different disciplines such as Education,
Sociology, Sociology of Education and Science and International and
Comparative Education.
Our interest is research on Critical Studies on Mobility. This
includes theoretical explorations of the social construction of
mobility and its ideological underpinnings and policy processes as
well as empirical studies on mobility/lack of mobility of
individuals. The prime areas are the Higher Education sector and the
Labor Market as well as research into sustainable development. In
the global knowledge society, mobility, especially mobility around
higher education could be seen as a tool to accelerate social
development of different countries in an
ecological-societal-economic sustainable manner. In this context
there is a need for researching mobility as an integral part of
social transformation connecting local and global processes within a
wider framework of critical social theory.
The theoretical framework we work from include sociological
perspectives on the social construction of mobility, social studies
of Education and Science, feminist theory on labor migration,
intersectional theory, gender in Higher Education, feminist
post-colonial knowledge relations and critical race theory.
The CRISMOS seminar takes place once a month, the first Wednesday at
12.00-14.30, (bring your lunch sandwich/salad), alternatively at the
Department of Education, Uppsala University, the Department of
Education at Stockholm University and the Nordic Africa Institute,
Uppsala. We present ongoing research, read and discuss interesting
theoretical articles together or invite inspiring guests.
The seminar is open to everybody with an interest in these topics,
either as an interested participant or to present their own ongoing
research. We are also keen on inviting those of you who work with
these issues within the university- /department administration or in
other organizations.
Seminar language: Swedish (and English if participants or invited
guests are non-Swedish speaking)
