PhD-scholarship in the field of
History of Education
A 3 year international PhD scholarship on the subject “A Century of Testing Intelligence and Competences. Testing in the Danish Educational System from 1900-2005” will be available from July 1 2007.
The PhD scholarship will be financed by the The Danish Agency for Science, Technology and Innovation.
The project is a result of collaboration between Department of Educational Sociology, The Danish University of Education and The Centre for Educational Sociology, The University of Edinburgh.
The aim of this international PhD – project is to investigate how concepts of tests and testing are closely tied to, and change(s) with, the time and place in which they are applied. The project presents a realistic opportunity for an investigation of the social and cultural transfer of educational ideas between the US and Europe and between the Nordic countries.
The PhD student will be enrolled as a PhD student at Department of Educational Sociology, The Danish University of Education. The Student will spend approximately 2 year at the Department of Educational Sociology and 1 year at The Centre for Educational Sociology, following a schedule negotiated between the successful applicant and the supervisors. Supervisors will be associate professor Ning de Coninck-Smith (Copenhagen) and professor Martin Lawn (Edinburgh). The PhD student will affiliated with The Doctorate School in Culture, Diversity and Education at DPU (DocCDE).
The PhD student will be employed by the Danish University of Education. The terms of employment as a PhD student will be in accordance with the agreement of 11 January 2006 between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on PhD scholarships.
Applicants must have a Danish candidate degree or an equivalent international degree.
