Frequently Asked Questions

I Uppsala utgick planeringen frn bl.a. intresseanmlningar som flt in frn universitetets lrare under vren 1999.

 ABSTRACT

Uppsala is not only Swedens oldest university, founded in 1477. It is also the most comple, today comprising education and research in fields such as engineering, medicine and teacher training which elsewhere often form separate schools. Therefore all conceivable kinds of information technology applications exist within the campus. I will focus my talk on one recent major endeavor, the Swedish Learning Lab.

The Swedish Learning Lab is a joint effort by the three Swedish educational institutions Uppsala University, Karolinska institutet and Royal Institute of Technology, in collaboration with Stanford University. It is funded by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation. There are close ties to the Stanford Learning Lab as well as with partners within the Wallenberg Global Learning Network (WGLN). Major aims during the initial pilot period 2000-2001 are to

An application for two pilot projects was delivered on Oct 31st 1999:

Project 1. New Meeting Places for Learning
Experiment 1 - Distributed Interactive Learning Spaces (DILS)
Track 1. Communicative Spaces
Track 2. The impact of distributed project teams on learning excellence
Track 3. Working across time zones and cultures in globally distributed project teams

Experiment 2 - Content archives, student portfolios & 3D environments (APE)
Track A. Content and Context in Mathematics education
Track B. Digital resources in the humanities
Track C. 3D communication and visualization environments
Track D. Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacology, the Janus learning site

Experiment 3 - Interactive Simulation of Patients - a Virtual Learning space  (ISP-VL)

Project 2. Bioinformatics. Learning in information intense, dynamic and cross disciplinary environments

There will also be a visiting scholars program and other activities.

INBJUDAN

frn Uppsala Learning Lab <www.learninglab.uu.se>
